Part F -- Ventilation;     Build Tight / Ventilate Right

Buildings are now a lot more insulated and air tight, so it is vital that a suitable ventilation system is in place.Habitable rooms require a minimum amount of supply air, extraction and purge ventilation.

The airtightness level can also determine the correct level of ventilation to comply with Building Regulations Part F. Background Ventilation is increased by 40% for airtight buildings, which results in larger diameter wall ducts.

You can either use natural ventilation or adopt a more energy efficient mechanical ventilation system. The most common are Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV) and Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR).

Insufficient ventilation can lead to mould growth, condensation damage and unhealthy living conditions.
